I've found great books on the meta-issues of writing, like the overall plot structure or character development, but nothing as detailed as what Paul's created here.I'm analytical, and so I like to plan before I start. And because I'm writing to market, I need to get a firm grasp on what exactly separates market from market. Paul's book does exactly that for the thriller genre. Completely indispensable if you're learning to writing a thriller.

I loved this book. I was excited to read this book because I wrote a novel in this genre and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working. This book gave me the answers. This book has everything the history, study cases and covers every major aspect of writing in this genre. Definitely sitting on my reference shelf. I highly recommend it
Tomlinson takes a deep dive into what makes a good thriller. He uses clear examples of films and novels to illustrate his points. Structure, genre conventions, history, and detailed explanations of the how and why of many subgenres. This book saved me hours of research.
