I recently started readying Haiku through Patricia Donegan's Haiku Mind. I was looking for another book which dealt primarily with North American writers as I found these were my favourites in her book. This Anthology comprises 850 haiku and senryu written in English by 89 poets, including the top haiku writers of North America past and present. As the book says "It is simply the best, most extensive collection of English language haiku in existence and I agree.

Bought this for myself.. I love haiku. This has a great mix of so many great ones..If you love to read haiku this is your book.. happy reading..

This is a wonderful Haiku book to learn from.

It is very hard to discuss the quality of haiku since its ability to resonate in our emotions through imagery is so subjective. Let me just say that I discovered new poets I never heard of before who made a powerful impression on me. That alone is worth five stars to me.

Loved it. For van den Heuvel is a master poet and collector, and this collection really stands out. A must for any haiku fan eager to see how contemporary masters do it.

I love it! I had never thought of purchasing an anthology before this one, I am very glad I did. It gave me new insight into writing and reading Haiku. There are several more I plan on purchasing.

5-7-5 is not the standard for most of the best haiku practitioners in English. The only place where 5-7-5 is the majority is in the classroom when taught by English teachers who've made no study of the form beyond: "5-7-5, season word." For one thing 5-7-5 onji in Japanese is not the same as that number of syllables in English. Some aim for 3-5-3, as closer to the length of the Japanese poem, or want a poem that can be said in one breath. A rigid adherence to 5-7-5 often leads to poems that are stretced and squeezed in unnatural ways to fit, and also to poems being considered haiku because of the syllable count. You learned 5-7-5 in grade school. You're a little older now. :>

Cute book! My almost-two-year-old daughter loves it! She made me read it three times in a row, which she's never done before with other books. Plus, it's kind of fun to read.

Cute book. I got this for a 1 year old birthday.

My granddaughter (2-1/2) just LOVES this book! She wants to read it over and over again.

Fun to do the different animal voices. Good sturdy board book. My almost 2 yo who got it as a gift likes it and the 4 yo puts up with it- a little young for her, though.

Cute story. Repetitive words so younger kids can begin to read along. (i.e. dog, cat, pig, duck, horse). The words are also sounds, which is fun for kids. (i.e. clippity-clop and plippity-plop.)

We love this story in our house. It’s so fun and cute. It was my daughter’s favorite book when she was a toddler. Whenever I have to buy a book for a baby to 4 year old, I buy this one.

Received this when my daughter was just a baby and have been reading it ever since (six years!). Nice simple book, cute illustrations.

Adorable! My son learned the word "again" from the peak moment of this book.
