About the Author

Flip Nicklin is a National Geographic photographer with more than 5,500 dives spent observing dolphins and whales to his credit. Some of his books are With the Whales and Whales: Dolphins and Porpoises, and his 20 articles for National Geographic magazine include “Bottlenose Whales,” “Listening to Humpbacks,” and “Pursuing the Minke.” He also works actively with the Whale Trust, a whale conservation organization. “Listening to Humpbacks,”Linda Nicklin is a writer, educator, and naturalist who collaborates on research and education projects with her husband, National Geographic photographer Flip. They have coauthored the children’s books Face to Face with Dolphins and Face to Face with Whales. The Nicklins live in Alaska and Hawaii, where they work on their research boat, The Trust.

This book was ordered as a gift.The book is paperback and has unique, full color photos. The only drawback to this purchase is how few pages the book has,It is very thin. About 32 pages.Would I return this as unsatisfied, no because National Geographic photography is just and absolutely stunning! It will remain here in my home for the children as reference material. If there were 4 or 6 in a gift set pack then it would be suitable to give as a gift...ie Whales, Dolphins, Tropical Fish and Turtles (for instance). The book would've made a fabulous calendar though!I want a dozen if they turn the book into a calendar!!!Superb photography!!!!

As a fourth grade teacher, I'm always looking for books to teach nonfiction. Too often, books look great on the outside and have lots of pictures, but do not have well-written text to use for instruction. This book is a nice bridge between short nonfiction articles and longer format nonfiction. In addition, it includes paragraphs that show a variety of text structures, which will make it a great guided reading book as I teach about text structure.

What a great book for a youngster! I have to admit that I fell in love with it as much as my granddaughter did when she received it! It wasin great condition and packaged with care. Thanks very much.
