About the Author

Dr. Ashar completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University. He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. Following Residency and Chief Residency at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals of Cleveland, he joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins as an Assistant Professor of Medicine. At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Ashar has been very active in medical education. He currently serves as the Director of the Advanced Medicine Clerkship (Medicine Subinternship), as a core faculty member of the Medical School's Colleges system, and as a firm faculty member for the Johns Hopkins Osler Medicine residency program. He is on the Johns Hopkins Medical Student Admissions Committee and Continuing Medical Education Committee. He directs the Johns Hopkins Internal Medicine Board Review Course and is a founding editor of the Johns Hopkins Board Review Book. Dr. Ashar's clinical and research interests revolve around complementary and alternative medicine, preventive medicine, anemia, and medical education. Professionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Past-President of the Mid-Atlantic Society of General Internal Medicine.

Lot of basic stuff for the initial certification of ABIM but not enough clinical stuff for MOC recertification, butI would start with this first before you do anything else.. although MOC will try to mislead you to think it isall clinic, but In reality it still have lots of basic Internal Medicine stuff that you would need to know to passthe exam

Great book. Do NOT buy the kindle version. The paperback has a code you redeem on expert consults for the online version on expertconsult.inkling.com. To view on phone you can use "ebooks by inkling" from the app store which is easier to access the chapters and better formatted than the typical kindle book. Do NOT download the "inkling" app. Not sure what that app is for.

Of the board review books, this was the most comprehensive. The material is more dense than other review books so if you want just a brush-up on material go to the other ones. If you want fairly detailed review of topics, this is the book for you. Despite its small size, its packed full of information so beware - it takes a lot longer to read and memorize material. The book comes with a question-bank that can be accessed online or with an online app. I used both (computer and android) and I liked it. The questions were well written and just a little bit harder than the actual Board exam. The explanations and questions could be used by themselves as a quick review methodology.

I received the book on 1/27/2014 and was very disappointed because the expertconsult.com site that you need to access the 1000 questions was down and didn't allow you to register. The book itself is pretty informative, but the question bank is just as important for review purposes.I must reevaluate my review since the expertconsult.com site came back online on about 2/10/14. It now allows you to register and you have access to the book and the questions online. It also allows you to use the Inkling app for free to view the book and questions on my ipad. Download the Inkling app on your ipad and use the same email address and password as you use for the expertconsult.com site to log in. I recommend getting the book and not the Kindle version, especially if you have an ipad. The questions are fairly challenging and the answers provided are clear and concise. This purchase is certainly worth the price now. I have to give it 4/5 stars now and would probably have given it 5 if the site was working from the beginning.Zenlily

I was recommended this book by a resident who brought up an interesting point: What is the last test the exam question writers most likely took and what did they use to study?The answer - this book. This book combined with the MKSAP questions and Online MedEd videos will be more than enough to fully prepare you for IM exam and to rock your Step 2 CK!

I can't saw enough about this book!!! THIS BOOK IS TRULY ALL YOU NEED!!!!! I only got MKSAP for the CMEs, but I'm advising EVERYONE, to look at this book and definitely use the questions that are online that comes with this book. The design and format of this book assists with helping a person to look at the big picture to figure out the specifics, I know thats not how I was taught when I was in medical school and residency 20 yrs ago, but I failed my ABIM boards, after using MKSAP, but, someone recommended this book and I utilized it along with the questions, I went thru the book 5 times, and the questions as well and I passed with flying colors!!!!

IThis is the best of the "university medical center" IM reviews. It is easy to read and clear with adequate depth and good figures and tables. The practice questions are at the level of actual examination questions. It was my primary M.O.C. study source and helped me achieve a high score.

This book is very concise and right to the point. It also has lots of graphics and charts, which makes learning helpful. I highly recommend it.

While this book has basic helpful tips for beginners, I 100% guarantee there are far better books out there for those interested in investing in real estate. The two main areas that were helpful were the sections on the fha loan and 203k loan which only made up about 1/20 of the entire book. Other than that, the author references his personal website multiple times unnecessarily, tells us how he got his business started by then stating it is near impossible to do the same way because of restructured rules and etc, and lastly SO MANY ERRORS in his writing. Just the fact that nobody cared or took the time to look over this book to fix the errors is enough to tell me it is not worth reading. The mistakes included in the photo were just a few of the multiple that were found

I really want to like this book. The content is solid so far and there is a lot of useful information. However, the number of typos, errors, and distinct lack of care that went into producing this book is, frankly, embarrassing. Considering that the author is supposed to be the lead editor of BiggerPockets.com, it's rather ironic that this book is so horribly edited despite this being the second edition of the book. Even the back of the book, where one normally first decides if they want to buy the book, contains typos. It's honestly just distracting and a nuisance to have to deal with.

Would-be real estate investors will learn a wealth of information in this well-written book. Several tools are laid out for you, and while some are a bit technical, the author uses plain English examples to make otherwise confusing tips and processes come to life.Unfortunately, all great real estate deals rely on the initial seller getting a poor price for their property. Spin it any way you wish ("Clarence sold his home to a wholesaler and escaped the double mortgage payments that were drowning him!" He did, but got 60% of his home's value.), you cannot make money in real estate without somebody else losing money. Sure, there's the house flipping strategy where you buy cheap and restore the property, but even that's a situation where the seller loses because they can't afford the repairs themselves.To the author's credit, he recommends strictly ethical practices, finding "great deals" notwithstanding. There are certainly a number of dirty tricks that allow a savvy person to take advantage of those with meager means or poor credit. The author warns sternly against these, and gives some genuinely useful advice for creatively investing without fleecing those who are down on their luck.It is worth mentioning that the author seems genuinely motivated to teach, rather than trying to make his fortune by selling you and endless string of books to teach you how to make yours. Most of the additional resources mentioned are free, and other books mentioned are usually written by other authors.As with any investment, there are numerous hazards and pitfalls; perhaps more here due to the "no or low money down" approach. But, the author does identify these, and gives appropriate words of warning. Anybody can creatively invest in real estate, but it is clear that not everybody should.

This was my first Real Estate Investing book to read and it was helpful. The way the author explains things is easy to understand, but this also seems like it's more intended for novice investors. I just finished Building Wealth One House at a Time and it got more into the numbers side of things, but still probably more for novice investors. I just started What Every Investor Needs to Know About Cash Flow - definitely more advanced number crunching involved here.

If you want to read a book about investing, I highly recommend Brandon's book. If you want to be lied to and sent on another guys gourney with no point of direction then this is not the book for you. Brandon does a great job in laying it in easy to follow direction for you to follow and the read was interesting the entire time. I think if it weren't for people like Brandon who actually want to see you succeed, the concept of investing would seem to only be for the rich, but Brandon definitely shows you that anyone with the passion can do it.

I dipped my toes into the water of real estate investing about three weeks ago, buying my first course online. As a lifelong renter whose parents built their own house, I’m about as new to real estate as they come. However, this book takes you by the hand and walks you through some amazing (and amazingly easy) investment strategies - all with examples using real life situations to help make it click.

Super easy read. I finished it in two days. I cannot count the amount of typos of grammatical errors on my fingers and toes (there are a lot...I really question who edited this book), however I still love it. It takes many concepts and breaks them down very practically and when possible uses real life scenarios and investor's experience in certain areas of real estate investing to educate the reader. I found it to be a very valuable read.

I'm giving this book four stars because it was realistic. Anyone who know's anything about Brandon Turner knows that he doesn't add filler or mix words. Although much of this information I already knew, I still found something that I hadn't come across before, the Master Lease Option(MLO). Being someone who wants to get into big apartment buildings, the MLO gave me a new tool to use on my path toward completing my goals. Also, being a veteran of the armed forces, after I was done reading the advance copy that I received in PDF format, I went out and bought a fourplex with my VA backed mortgage loan. Why did I not give it five stars? I'm real big on in depth case studies and I didn't see much of that in there. Otherwise, I recommend this excellent piece of work by the #2 guy at Biggerpockets.com .P.S. If you're just starting out, the wholesaling chapter is worth it's weight in gold.
